Lady Raiders open region schedule with sweep

Summer Shockley has now won four straight games for the Lady Raiders. After starting and winning both games Thursday against Ellsworth, Shockley did the same thing, but in a different order, as Three Rivers beat State Fair 3-0 in the opener and 12-3 in five innings in the nightcap to open the Lady Raiders' Region XVI season.

On Thursday, Shockley was pulled early in the opener after Three Rivers (11-7, 2-0 Region XVI) got a big lead, then she pitched the entire nightcap. Against State Fair, it was the nightcap were she had the early hook. Shockley struck out 11 over seven innings and allowed four hits and two walks in the opener against State Fair. She also stranded seven runners. The Lady Roadrunners (9-14, 2-4 Region XVI) reached third base once. Shockley kept the run off the board with a pair of strikeouts to end the fifth inning. The latter of which was the first on eight straight outs to finish the game. Three Rivers took an early lead after Gracie King singled in the first inning. Sydney Tollison pinch ran and took second on a wild pitch, and scored on Allison Pingel's single to left field. Three Rivers then scored a pair of unearned runs in the second inning after two Roadrunner errors. Sophie Wunderlich reached on an error, stole second, and scored on Lindsey Elfrink's two-out single. Elfrink then stole second, and scored on an error at third base. Shockley only pitched the first two innings of the nightcap, striking out five with two hits and no walks against, as the Lady Raiders scored eight runs in the first two innings. Allison Pingel hit her seventh home run of the season in the second inning, and also walked and scored in the first. Randi Scruggs scored in all three of her at bats and stole second twice. Kristyn Carpenter, who hits behind Scruggs, scored twice. Three Rivers had 20 hits, with Scruggs, Carpenter and Wunderlich all getting two. Wunderlich and Pingel each had three RBIs.
