Lady Raiders stay hot against Jefferson

POPLAR BLUFF – The No. 1 Three Rivers women's basketball team kept on rolling on Wednesday as they handled Jefferson with a 95-41 win at the Libla Family Sports Complex.

"We started out sluggish at the beginning, but the girls did a really good job of executing the game plan," Three Rivers coach Alex Wiggs said. "They know what they need to do to be successful and we had four players going into double figures (Wednesday). But we also had others contribute outside of scoring."

Joi Montgomery led the offense with 24 points while Myia Yelder had a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists.

"Myia sees the floor very well," Wiggs said. "The other girls are starting to see that and know when she's going to pass it. Early on, they didn't really know when she was going to pass it and it caused some turnovers, but now they're ready for it and it causes them to pay a little more attention to the ball when she has it."

Mariah Smith and Jenna McMillen combined for 26 point off the bench with Smith recording 15 while McMillen had 11.

Ari Winston had to sit out Wednesday's games as she was suffering from headaches. Wiggs said that she was shooting around earlier in the day, but was given the day off and will be back for the weekend.

The Raiders maintained their lead in the second quarter as they were up 33-22 with less than five minutes until halftime. From there, they ended the first half with a 14-0 run to go into the locker room with a 41-22 advantage.

Three Rivers were still going at full speed in the third as they started the second half with a 20-1 run in the first three and a half minutes to go up 61-23 and ended the third quarter with a 40-point advantage, 71-31.

The Raiders put it in cruise control in the fourth and came away with their 50th straight regular season game.

Up next for Three Rivers is a trip up the Mineral Area on Saturday.

"Mineral is a very well coached and physical team," Wiggs said. "We just need to make sure that we're prepared as well as rest up for Saturday."

Tip off for the women's game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
