Sikeston’s Kevin Jones signs with Raiders basketball

SIKESTON — Kevin Jones had a prolific career donning a Sikeston Bulldogs’ uniform.

On Thursday, Jones signed to continue his playing career at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff, Mo., under legendary coach Gene Bess.

“I’ve been close to that program since the seventh grade, going over there and playing with the SEMO Bulls,” Jones said. “I have some close friends going over there also, so it made sense to stay close to home, bring in a great crowd and just turn that program around, and get it back on its feet again.”

Jones’ ended his career in Sikeston as the all-time leader in assists (530), and steals (323). He is also fourth all-time in points (1,378) and third all-time in 3-pointers made (161).

Additionally, Jones also brings a winning attitude to the Raiders roster. In his four years at Sikeston, Jones was on the court for 104 wins and is someone that Bess is excited to have.

“I have watched Kevin from a distance for several years,” Bess said. “I’ve been really impressed with how his team wins, and this is what we’re trying to look for this year, as much as anything else is getting players off of winning teams. Kevin’s really tough, and we’re looking for somebody who can stop a dribbler; we really didn’t have a player on the team that could contain a dribbler on the other team. So, he’s going to fill that role, and I understand he’s very unselfish, and a hard worker, and you can’t go wrong with somebody like that.”
