Brenton Tidd, Kennett talent, signs to play baseball at TRC

Kennett senior Brenton Tidd has been familiar with the Three Rivers baseball program since he was in middle school.

“I know a lot of guys that are not even from Kennett at Three Rivers,” Tidd said. “I’ve also spent most of my life talking to Coach Burkey. Since eighth grade I’ve talked to him and it has sounded like the right college for me.”

Tidd finalized plans to attend the two-year school located in Poplar Bluff Thursday. The right-handed power hitter signed to play baseball at Three Rivers College.

“It’s always great to get Kennett kids because they are coming from a good program,” Three Rivers head baseball coach Stacey Burkey said. “Brenton is most likely going to be a corner infield type player for us. Definite roles won’t be ironed out until we get everyone there and see what works best for the team and individuals. But we are looking for him to be a good RBI guy for us in our lineup.”

Tidd hit a team-high seven home runs his junior season at Kennett.

“We always knew he was going to hit for power and his power numbers really came on last year,” Kennett head baseball coach Aaron New said. “He led our team and tied our single-season record for home runs since I’ve coached here with seven home runs his junior season.”

Tidd credited his high school coach for his emerging power.

“If it wasn’t for Coach New I wouldn’t be near as good as I am now,” Tidd said. “Hitting wise he has taught me all of my mechanics.”

Tidd said the most memorable moment of his high school baseball career to this point is hitting the first home run of his high school career against Jonesboro, Ark., last season.

“We were down by two and I hit a three-run homer and we won the game,” he said.

Tidd joins two other Kennett talents at Three Rivers. Kennett senior Zane Wallace also signed to play baseball at Three Rivers Thursday and 2017 Kennett graduate Ty’Reik Thomas is currently a freshman on the 2017-18 Three Rivers baseball team.

“It will be awesome having Ty’Reik and Zane on the same team,” Tidd said. “Hopefully, we can be roommates next year and have a good time.”

Tidd said he plans on working toward a degree in nursing at Three Rivers.

“I really want to stay close to my family and major in nursing,” Tidd said. “I will be able to get my basics in nursing at Three Rivers and then go on to major in nursing at Arkansas State.”
