Lady Raiders dominate Warriors, 102-53

In the first quarter of Sunday's home game against the Wabash Valley Warriors, the Lady Raiders opened the game on a 9-0 run, starting with a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Kiera Neal, en route to a dominant 102-53 victory for their second win of the season.

"I think it's just playing really good team basketball," said sophomore Caitlin Lord. "As you can see, there were multiple players in double figures this game, so it was amazing. We're getting lots of assists and lots of steals, and we're getting in the rhythm of things."

The Warriors were able to bank home their first shot on a 3-pointer from freshman Jordyn Scott. However, following Scott's shot, the Raiders were on a 5-0 run before timeout was called.

When play resumed, the Warriors' offense went on a 7-0 with shots from freshman Keeley Harris and Scott as the Warriors closed the game making it a 14-10 game.

The Warriors were able to close out the quarter leading by nine points. In the second quarter, the Raiders' offense came alive with a 15-0 run with multiple Raiders getting in on the action, including freshman Amelia Corasaniti with multiple layups and freshman Kimora Wooden with some mid-range jump shots, forcing Warriors head coach Mya Parker to call a timeout.

"That's a big-time quarter," said Raiders head coach Alex Wiggs. "I thought that second quarter, we did a great job of locking in defensively and kind of extending that lead and getting us to that point."

When play resumed, the Raiders closed out the half, allowing just six points in the quarter from the Warriors' offense, taking a 43-19 lead into the locker room.

"We just needed to be us," Lord said. "We weren't playing our style of basketball, and we were kind of letting them control the pace, so we needed to focus on defense, and then offense will come along."

The Raiders didn't skip a beat coming into the third quarter, continuing to dominate on the offensive end of the floor with freshman Londyn Harper opening the quarter with a 3-point shot, which led to her scoring another two baskets as the Raiders led 76-35 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Warriors opened the quarter on a 4-0 run, forcing a timeout from Wiggs. When play resumed, the Raiders closed out the game on a 19-6 run with six players finishing in double figures, including Lord, Harper, Samyah Jordan, Kiera Neal, Da'Naya Ross, and Jordan Blake as they cruised to their second victory, moving to 2-0 on the season.

"I think at the end of the day, it was the foot-to-throat mentality of just wanting to win more and wanting to win by more," Lord said.

The Raiders will be back in action Friday at home when the Trinity Valley Cardinals come to town, followed by a Saturday home game with Itawamba.

"We've got to get healthy," Wiggs said. "We've got to get our bodies feeling good. The girls have had a tough week, and we've got to make sure that we get locked in and focused for two good games this weekend."
