Men's Basketball (1977-79)

Sam Weaver was named the MVP of the 1979 NJCAA National Tournament after scoring a career-high 34 points in Three Rivers’ double-overtime win in the semifinals against future Arkansas Razorbacks coach Nolan Richardson and his Western Texas squad that featured NBA standout Paul Pressey.

He averaged 12.8 points during his sophomore season as the Raiders won their first National Championship and finished with a 37-3 record.

Weaver earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Henderson State University in 1981 and his master’s degree in physical education from Southeast Missouri State in 1985.

He began his decades-long coaching career at SEMO (1981-87), where he helped guide the Indians to four regional championships, four conference titles, and a national runner-up finish in 1986.
