Rodeo team competes in first rodeo of spring season

This past Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the Rodeo team kicked off the spring season at East Mississippi Community College.  Fridao night, Haley Staggs took  a winning shot in the breakaway roping event but caught a stroke of bad luck when she caught the barrier and got a ten second penalty.  She also competed in the goat tying, barrel racing, and team roping events over the weekend.  On the rough stock end of the arena, Josh Norman, Trevor Zerrusen, Dick Wente, Seth Johnson and Elijah Fuller drew some tough bulls and almost made the eight second whistle.  Leah Jackson and Larrya Stegall put together two nice barrel runs to end up in the top twenty but fell just short of making it to the short round Saturday night.  Madison Steele roped sharp in the breakaway roping event Friday morning to finish third in the short round.  She would finish fourth in the average after her Saturday night performance.  Said Coach Chad Phipps after his teams efforts this weekend, "All in all, we are very proud of how our team competed this weekend and are looking forward to our next rodeo in Monticello, Arkansas."
